Welcome new members interested in all things Mac.  I was so new to "social networking" when JS introduced these communities, I had to learn how to navigate a bit.  The "wall" is probably for introductions and welcomes.  If you have a question and would like to start a new thread, look at the bottom of all the listed discussions and there is a link to "start new discussion."  Hope this helps.  Sometimes we'll go quite some time without any action in this community because there's no "notification of new discussion" alert anywhere.  :-(

Hi Everyone. I'm new to digital scrapbooking but have been scrapbooking for over 15 years. I love the possibilities that digital scrapbooking give you but am a bit intimidated. Finding my "products" seems to be daunting. I friend of mine has been trying to get me into digi-scrapping for over a year now and I just can't dive-in. I took the picasa class and it only frustrated me further. Can anyone tell me how you organize your products. My friend has photos of her "items" show up when she's searching for things. I have to actually open the file to see what it is. I never get ANYTHING done... takes forever to find the paper I want to use, let alone the rest of my supplies. HELP!!!!

Hi scrappers! I'm so happy to join a group with Mac Lovers like me. It looks like some people aren't sure on how to start a discussion. All you have to do is click on "Creat Discussion" which is a small link right above this "Wall" section. Hope that helps. *scrappy hugs*

Welcome Ladies!

Gina, happy birthday and congrats on your new iMac! I love mine!!

I can't answer all of your questions, but for Fonts we have Font Book. It's in the Application folder. PSE will recognize all of your fonts from there when it's open, unless you specifically turn off fonts in Font Book. There's a Help menu to help you learn how it works. The class here for Picasa is great. I've never used Bridge, so I'm no help there, but Picasa is a very good digital supplies organizer! I have started using a separate iPhoto library for my digisupplies. It's working quite well. I still have Picasa set up though, so I'm using both currently. There's a recent thread in the general forum under non-scrapbooking about using iPhoto Library Manager to manage several iPhoto libraries. It's a great program!

I don't believe you can download directly to the EHD. At least I never have. Maybe someone else has the answer to that. I download to my downloads folder and then move stuff to a folder I have on my desktop for digisupplies. Then I occasionally move everything to my EHD, which is where I have Picasa recognizing
everything. It is nice though that files automatically unzip when downloaded.

There are lots of tutorials at Apple.com, both print and video. If you can go to workshops at a local Apple store, I highly recommend it. Also, when purchasing a new Mac there's an option to sign up for a year of one-to-one training at an Apple store. I did that my first year and it was so helpful!

There are Mac users here who love Bridge, so if you post your questions in the general forum, you're likely to get many responses. The forums are much more active than these communities.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Hi all, I just joined the group and I am looking forward to learning and sharing with you all. I've had a mac for about 3 years and I have to admit that I still have lots to learn.

Hi Ladies!!
Well my birthday was Sunday and my DH bought me an iMac! Yea! I am in the middle of 3 online classes with Jessica and not the greatest time to relearn. But I plugged in my EHD and am flying. Two questions. With the Bridge, when I go to my pictures on the EHD, they are in folders. I have used PSE 6.0 for pc for 2 years and am spoiled by Organizer and seeing all the pics easily. Can I change that? Second question... downloads. How do I direct my downloads to my EHD files? and what do I do with fonts? Are there tutorials for these things. I am planning on taking Picasa for digi elements, now everything is tagged in in ACDC. Thanks
Gina

Hmmm, can't figure out how to start a new topic.
My question was to be Printers/scanners. My current HP all in one will print on my new imac but I can't get it to scan. I was able to on my pc but it doesn't like the mac.

So, good excuse to buy a new one right? What are you happy with and not happy with your current printers? I like to print some photos and small digital pages. I don't think I'll print out the 12x12 so I don't need a wide format.

Looking forward to hearing what you all have. Oh, now that I've typed this I see "create discussion" above this Wall. :)

Hi again... Someone in the BE class sent me the document in .pdf form so I could use it. But I'm still curious to know whether or not Mac users can use Excel? It's been recommended to me to get MS Office Suite for the Mac, but I'm wondering how that compares to Apple's iWork? All I've had on my Mac since getting it over two years ago is TextEdit. It's not that great in my opinion.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on word processing software for the Mac? I think I'm going to need something to journal with the more I get into this digital scrapbooking hobby.

Thanks... Debbie

Hi... I'm wondering if anyone here knows how a Mac user can view a document that was created in Excel? It's a .xls document. I'm enrolled in Jessica's Beautiful Evidence class that begins next Monday, Aug. 24, and there's a checklist of homework to complete that one of the class members created for us, but it was done in Excel and I'm unable to open it on my Mac.

I've posted over at the forums hoping maybe somebody would have an answer, but so far nothing. I thought I'd ask my fellow Macheads here. Any ideas? Am I correct in thinking that Macs can't even use Excel?

Thanks in advance!

Debbie

Hello All, I'm new to the group and Jessica's site, so I'm not sure where to post this but did you know that there's a free abr brush viewer for the Mac? You can see a preview of all your Photoshop brushes from within the file windows or by using "cover flow" and you don't even need to open Photoshop to see the previews. It's a file that can be downloaded from this site:
http://brushviewer.sourceforge.net/
Once you download it be sure to read the "readme" file and it explains how to install it. Basically you just drag the file into in the QuickLook folder (located in the system library folder). Then anytime you look at an .abr file you will see a preview just like you would for a .jpg or any other file. I love this utility and think you all should go download it a check it out. It's also available for the PC (I use both platforms, but really love the Mac for creativity!) I hope this helps someone!

I want to welcome all of you to this Mac group. We have 95 members...ranking behind two photography groups in numbers. That's great. Use the wall to introduce yourself if you'd like and be sure and ask your questions in the discussion area! Everyone feel free to chime in with answers, comments so we can all learn from one another! It sometimes helps if you add the name & version of the app you're using.

Let's Keep in Touch!
