Birthday Bash Day 7 Print

Hi there, and welcome to our final day of our Birthday Bash! What a week it has been! We hope you've been enjoying the celebration as much as we have!

It was a total thrill to have so many new members added to our Spraground family. It was delightful to see so many Spragbabes explore and discover our new community, setting up groups that are designed to bring us even closer and to enrich our relationships even further. It was amazing to witness the overflow of creative juices and awesome talent that filled our Challenge Gallery. And of course, it was our huge pleasure to be able to share with you our birthday goodies and freebies!

Cheers for your Challenge Layouts

What awesome layouts we discovered, once more, hanging on the walls of our Challenge Gallery! And such interesting one-liners, too! You seriously rock!

Here are just a few of the many amazing layouts we found:

doris's one-liner was supported by the large image she used on her layout.

We loved how Amy L's layout captured the student in her son :

DustyTX used the challenge to scrap a layout about her four-legged sweetie:

BSE played with both the words and the image on her layout:

tori did a 2-page layout for the challenge:

and  pjscraps hit a homerun with her one-liner on her layout!

Today's Spraground Tip

Our amazing community keeps growing bigger, and it's a huge amazing place to be in because of you!

Here's our latest Spraground tip, brought to you by our dearest Jessica! And you know she loves you because she's giving you two tips today!

Did you know that you can connect what you write and post on your blog as well as your Twitter feed right into your Spraground profile?

What does this mean? It means that anyone can click on your profile and read your latest blog posts (You can configure the number of blog posts that you want to show--I would suggest 5). And it's the same thing with your latest Tweets!

The way to do this is to add the RSS feed application and the Twitter feed application to your profile.

Jared and Molly  have written some great instructions for locating, copying, and adding your blog's RSS feed to your profile! Just click HERE to go to our Community Help Section and read all about it.

And for more information on what the heck RSS is (and other ways you can take advantage of it!), you can read my "RSS: What the Heck?" article by clicking right here.

If you're on Twitter, then you're just a few clicks away from feeding your  tweets through to your Spraground profile!Just log into the webside, click on "Community" and then click on the green"Applications" tab. When you get there, you'll see "My Twitter Updates." Click on the green plus-sign, then the Configuration button to provide your Twitter username and password... and that's all there is to it!

Be sure to look for other Spraground tweeters and start following some new friends! Woohoo!

Some Shop Goodies!

We've featured our awesome new designers, Crystal Wilkerson and her Creativity by Crystal designs, and Orchard & Broome, the fab team of Candice Stringham and Sarah Champion. We also featured the super-awesome designs of our very own Design Diva, Jessica Sprague (yes, she, queen of our shop and the entire Spraground)! Today if you'll allow me, I'd like to join this illustrious club of featured artists and humbly show you a few of the stuff I've created for our shop as well:

Here are a couple of my kits:

And here are a couple of my element packs:

The Last Birthday Challenge

It's our last birthday challenge, and the 28th challenge for our June Create-A-Day Challenge Month! (For the last 2 days of our June Create-A-Day Challenge Month, look for the challenge information in their regular sticky spot in our General Forum).

Are you ready? 1, 2, 3, 4....

There is this song I love by Plain White T's, and although the fact that it features Chicago (where we had our very first Spraguefest last year) may be a big part of the reason why I love it, if you listen to the words and the melody, I'm pretty sure you'll end up loving it too.

If you click on the image above, you'll be able to view the video and listen to the song... I promise you, it will be worth your while!

And you can play it while we do today's challenge, because guess what? Our challenge is based on this song! :D

Here's how we'll play our 1-2-3-4 challenge today:

  1. Use 1 font, 2 brushes, 3 colors and 4 photos to create your layout. Not more, not less. Please follow each item strictly, despite the temptation to add or subtract a font, brush, color or photo here and there. *haha* It’s always nice to push ourselves to stick within the limits so that we can surprise ourselves with the amazing stuff we didn’t think we could actually come up with!
  2. Include "BDay 7 / JuneCAD28" in the title of your layout when you upload it.
  3. Upload your marvelous last-birth-day-layout to our Challenge Gallery and let us know when you've done so. Look for the sticky thread in the that says "Birth-Day 7 / June CAD-Day 28" in the General Forum and post there to let us know that we can run over to the gallery and leave love for you!
  4. Singing along with the vid while scrapping is entirely optional but highly recommended. (wink!)
Hope you have loads of fun with our challenge today!

On the seventh day of our Birthday, the Spraground gave to me...

We all love to receive party favors and goodies, don't we? Today's birthday freebie is a template created by our dear Molly using Jessica's scrapped layout as her inspiration for this lesson.

Here's the original layout of Jessica:

And here's your birthday goodie from Molly!

Click on the image above to download this awesome freebie for the day! (And remember that you want to snag this before 10AM EST tomorrow morning!).

(Sorry! Link to freebie is expired. )

And... that's about it for our birthday week, Spraground sweeties! We hope you had a marvelous time partying, and we hope to see you around our Spraground forums and galleries more often! (If you're new and just checking us out today, come register, create your first layout, and upload it to our galleries!)

Have a wonderful, awesome final day of celebration! Remember, we've got one last day to enjoy all the cookies, cupcakes and soda drinks on our Spraground!

Birthday Bash Day 6 Print

Hi there, and welcome to the sixth day of our week-long Spraground Birthday Bash!

Super Screen Shot Challenge Layouts!

Once again, we were blown away by the tremendous creativity in our Challenge Gallery, in response to our Birth-Day 5 / June CAD-Day 26 Challenge. It was incredibly fun and interesting to see how you used screen shots to document your favorites, from sites to videos to maps!

Here are only some of the many amazing challenge layouts we spotted in our gallery!

Magik used several screen shots to document her virtual daily trips!

Michelle Kennedy used a screen shot of her Photoshop Elements workspace to give us a peep into her creative process:

phxnjc used a screenshot of her grandpa performing on youtube! Woot!

iMargo gave her screen shot a twofold function, using it not only as her background paper but also a wonderful document of her trip to Paris:

And kixvix, from our very own Spraground Creative Team, documented what many of us can surely relate to:

For more oooh-ing and aaah-ing exercise, do check out our rockin' Challenge Gallery!

"Ad" This Challenge!

Speaking of traveling around the net, among my favorite places to visit are sites that feature ads. They are such treasure troves of inspiration!

A couple of weeks back, I was moseying down webland and came across this ad on Youtube (okay, so let me confess: I discovered it because it was featured on msn.com as the most interesting ad in recent times).

And I loved it! Want to know why? They have some of the best one-liners I have ever come across!

If you know a bit about me, you probably know that I just love words. I especially love the play of words. I love how the right words used in one sentence can have the power to capture the essence of someone or something.  And if you happen to have a talent of weaving words with a dash of mystery and a bit of a cryptic air, then I'm putty in your hands! :D

Check out this sampling of one-liners from the Dos Equis ad above:

  • His charm is so contagious, vaccines have been created for it.
  • Years ago he built a city out of blocks; today over six hundred thousand people live and work there.
  • He is the only man to ever ace the Rorschach test.
  • Every time he goes for a swim, dolphins appear.
  • Alien abductors have asked him to probe them.
  • If he were to give you directions, you’d never get lost, and you’d arrive at least 5 minutes early.
  • His legend precedes him the way lightning precedes thunder.
  • He is the most interesting man in the world.

* Psst! If you want to view the ad, the image above is linked. Simply click on it!

Today, we challenge you to rack your brains a bit but don't worry, I promise you it's going to be worth it... and fun!

Here's how we'll play today:

1. Create a layout about anything under the sun, as long as it’s a living thing. No objects, please. (So friends, family, babies, pets are okay. Favorite pair of shoes, not okay. haha!)

2. Your layout should have only ONE line of text (Think of it as the title and the journaling combined into one. So just one line of text). Try to make the words in that one sentence capture a main quality of the person or living thing you're scrapping about.

3. Use at least one photo on your layout.

4. Include "Birth-Day 6 / JuneCAD-Day 27" in your layout file's title.

5. Upload your layout to our Challenge Gallery and let us know in the sticky thread in the General Forum when you’ve done so! (Look for the thread, "Birth-Day 6 / June CAD-Day 27").

We can't wait to see what amazing stuff you come up with again!

Birthday Goodie No. 6

And of course we have not forgotten your birthday freebie for today!

Our super designer Crystal (Creativity By Crystal) gives us a super-cute desktop "quickpage" which you can slide your photo in real quickly and then put on your computer desktop so that you get your very own special calendar for the month of July!

Click on the image above to download today's birthday goodie! (And be sure to grab it before 10AM EST rolls around tomorrow, when this desktop moves to our shop and a new birthday freebie takes it place!)

Have a wonderful Birthday Bash day today!

Community Tip for the Day

We really do love it when our Spraground family grows! Jessica tells us how we can keep growing with Today's Spraground Tip!

Did you know you could invite people OUTSIDE the Spraground to join you in your new favorite community? It's super easy, too.

Here's how! Click on Community at the top right of our home page. Then click the Friends tab and select Invite Friends. Simply add some emails of those you want to join the Spraground, type a message to them and hit Send! I'm sure you can think of someone who would love to be part of an awesome, crafty community like we have here!

Here's something that you can share with your friends when you bring them over today...

Photoshop Friday Tutorial

Fridays have always been special on our Spraground because to most of us, the word "Friday" is invariably connected to the word "Photoshop!" Oh, how we all love Photoshop Fridays.

And because today is Friday, we're having a special Photoshop Friday tutorial  for our birthday week on our Spraground! And whee, it has to do with what most of us consider one of the most essential things in life: the internet (haha!).

Have you ever stopped to think about how much you’re influenced by the internet? There are all kinds of tools and destinations we go to every day, and there are also great online tools you can use to help fill out your stories.

Aaaand there's a great way to get these online babies scrapped on our layouts!

Today Jes shows us how easy it is to include screen shots in our albums with this special video tutorial!

Click on the image above to view our Photoshop Friday video tutorial from Jessica!

We'll be using the Photoshop Friday tutorial for our challenge today!

Birth-Day 5 / June CAD-Day 26 : Photoshop Friday Challenge

For Jessica, who most certainly spends a huge amount of her time online, work and free time have blended together nicely right on our Spraground which she created 2 years ago (Yay! That's why we're partying! We're two years old!).

Our dear Jessica met up with some of us in Chicago last June, on our first birthday, and we had the most awesome time together for the three days of our Beta Spragfest! It was such a lovely surprise to find out that that Jessica had scrapped some photos of our Spragfest, along with a screen shot of our home-on-the-web, our favorite place to be, the Spraground!

And here's Jessica's layout of her actual home (the one that houses the Spraground home, haha!):

See those awesome screen shots that she used? We're going to do the same thing with our challenge today!

Here's how we'll play:

1. Use the Photoshop Friday tutorial to learn how to create a screen shot and bring it into your Photoshop workspace.

2. Create a layout using one or more screen shots. It can be a screen shot of where you live with your address (see Jessica's layout above), or it can be a screenshot of your favorite places to visit on the web (again see Jessica's layout above), or it could be a screen shot of anything. As long as it's one you captured with a keyboard button, you're good to go!

3. Upload your layout to our Challenge Gallery, then look for the "Birth-Day 5/ June CAD-Day 26" thread in the sticky area and post  on that thread once you've uploaded because we want to know when we can run to the gallery and do the whoopeedee-do celebratory dance!

4. Include "Birth-Day 5 / JuneCAD-Day 26" in your layout title when you upload it.

5. Have an immensely enjoyable time today!

And nope, we have not forgotten that it's...

Freebie Time!

And speaking of immensely enjoyable, here is a super-terrific set of wordart and flower stickers by none other than our very own Jessica! Woohoo!

Click on the image above to download today's Birthday Goodie! (And make sure you grab it before 10AM Eastern Standard Time tomorrow, when it moves to our shop and is replaced by another fab freebie).

Have a wonderful Photoshop Phriday!

Orchard & Broome Debuts on the Spraground!

Have you peeped in our shop today? Have you seen the newest awesome stuff we've got up there? We've got Orchard & Broome on our Spraground! YAY!

Orchard & Broome is the fabulous partnership made up of the very talented Sarah Champion and our very own Candice Stringham! This great team of two started on a small but well loved intersection of New York City, a city loved by both girls (and add to their list of loves a passion for romantic comedies). It's a truth universally acknowledged that any New Yorker in possession of a sound mind must also be in want of good design - so it was there that they decided to combine their passion for fantastic design and handmade crafts to create a brand new digital line of scrapbooking and printable stationary products. They like to think that their style is clean and modern (with a twist of lovely) and hope you will too!

A Bit More about Candice Stringham: Candice has a BFA in photography is an editorial photographer and contributing editor at Creating Keepsakes Magazine. She currently lives in Brooklyn but will be departing soon to the Alamo. She hears it has no basement, which is tragic, really. She loves Jane Austin, Jcrew, Pink Berry, the letter S, black and white photographs, umbrellas, cupcakes shops, and any movie that have a girl and a guy that fall in love and, oh yeah, her amazingly talented actor husband and two little boys fall on the top of that list!

A Bit More about Sarah Champion: Sarah is currently a student of Graphic Design at the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and lives in Manhattan. She spent several years at American Crafts designing some of their amazing products and winning both a Communication Arts award and several AIGA awards. She has a high standard of design and is amazingly talented on her Mac. She loves online shopping, traveling, Ingrid Michaelson, Diet Coke, cupcake bakeries, In the Heights, James McAvoy and the Upper West Side.

The best news is that you don't have to travel to New York to fall in love with Orchard & Broome because you get them right here on our Spraground! A little trip to their store will bring you to brilliant works of printable pattern paper, labels, stickers, cards, posters and more!

Here are a few of their wonderful items that are now in our shoppe:

Run to our shop and fall in love with Orchard & Broome today!

Good Karma (aka Today's Community Tip)

Some of you have discovered that little green icon beside your photo in your Community Profile page (and some have even debated whether it's a leaf or a butterfly! heehee!)

And many have been wondering: what is that Karma, and how do I get more of it?

Here's Jessica with the answers to all our questions!

Karma basically shows how active you are in the Spraground. The more you complete your profile and make posts, the more those karma leaves will fill in! What if you have NO Karma yet? Upload a your picture to your user profile. Once you do that, you can start earning Karma!

Cool, right? Now you can ask anyone "What's your karma?" and you'll know if they read today's blogpost!

And speaking of questions... Pop Quiz, Quick! Finish the sentence:

Candice Stringham loves { BLANK } photographs.

(If you answered black and white, give yourself a birthday cookie!)

And so do we! And we're taking that love to our challenge today!

B2 & W+1 - Our Birth-Day 4 Challenge!

Today's challenge is going to get you digging into your digi stash and photo folders (or boxes) for all things black and white! (Okay, we'll take browns as well).

Sometimes less is more, they say. And in this case, we're going to do away with all colors and go back to the basics! We're going to work with neutrals (black and white and, okay, we'll allow shades of brown as well :D ). And because we love ya, we'll allow you to add just ONE other color to the mix. (But just one, okay?)

Here's how we'll play today:

1. Create a layout with only the basics. What this means: every single thing on your layout, from papers to elements and photos, must be in neutral colors (shades of white, black, grey, and brown).

2. Choose only one other color to add to the neutrals. Red? Blue? Orange? Green? The choice is yours! You can use this color on your elements or, if you're feeling daring, on your photos... but not on any paper.

3. Upload your layout to our Challenge Gallery and then skip along to the sticky thread on our General Forum to let us know that you've done so, and we'll come running to leave you love! (Look for the thread that says "Birth-Day 4/June CAD-Day 25").

4. Don't forget to include "BD4-CAD25" in your layout title.

We can't wait to see what you come up with!

And we'll bet you can't wait to see...

Today's Birthday Giveaway!

Today's freebie is a set of 25 stitched tabs with glue strips for extra stickiness! You'll get 12 with pre-printed months for this year, plus 6 pre-made tabs and 6 tab covers with 1 textured paper so that you can create your own labels!

Click on the image above to download this freebie I've made for you (and don't forget to snag it before 10am EST tomorrow, when it moves to our shop and is replaced by a new freebie).

(So sorry, the freebie download link has expired.  But you can still get this goodie at our shop! Yay! )

Have a wonderful day today, and look forward to more birthday fun and goodies tomorrow!
