Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa....i upgraded to CS4 to take an advanced class with Jessica and here it is.....the price?...well...if you check other classes online and in convention centers (i have been getting these promotions to attend in the Boston area)..this is quite a deal...and given that i know Jessica's quality and teaching style i am not hesitating to sign up..i am fortunate to already have CS4 and retired with all children out and paying their own way....that being said, i will have to delay the restoration class....(hope that tax refund gets deposited before registration...lol)

I am sure it is an awesome class! But I don't have a comp that will run CS well...so I would have to buy a new comp, CS, and the class. Egads! Maybe someday and a little bit at a time lol. You guys that are taking it, ENJOY!

I am much in the same boat as dewnie. All kids out on their own. I retired from full time teaching 6 years ago and now I teach part time to make my "walking around" money. Will I ever design professionally? Who knows ? but, I am old enough to know that I don't close the door on anything! I love all the knowledge I have gained from Jessica and want to get all that I can. I will be in this class. Hope to see as many as possible there. I do remember the days when eking out this amount of money would have been a real strain. I feel for you ladies (and gents). ~Ann

I'd love to take this class but just can't justify the cost for personal use. If I was planning on selling, I would be so in. Perhaps a "designing for fun class" could be offered in the future without the commercial components. Just thinking out loud!

I'm in! When my husband and I decided to go for his Master's Degree this year (after putting it off for over 10 years), we decided at the same time to let me have my own "pseudo-Masters," so I've been taking as many Jessica Sprague classes as I can; they feel professional. My kids have watched the classes with me, and have started dabbling in Photoshop and Illustrator on their own (even our four-year old gives me suggestions on my scrapbook pages), so for us it's a family investment. Thank you so much for offering this!

For PlanetLaukner and pammieK - It's hard for me to guide you as to whether or not to purchase Illustrator. What level of scrapper are you? Do you desire to design digi kits at some point? Just for yourself? Or for sale?

Illustrator is a graphic design and illustration software. It's strong point is being able to draw your own vector shapes. Unless you are looking to become a designer, I think it might be overkill. Or maybe you don't want to design for resale but maybe you consider yourself a power user in the sense that you want to have complete control over the items that you put in your layouts - then maybe it makes sense.

Here's something to consider: it has as big of a learning curve as PS/CS. So if you're already skilled in most CS tools and are looking for a challenge, it might be useful. If not, then it might just distract you from getting the full use of your CS.

Laura - thanks for the input - I "may" get it simply cause it is packaged together and hate to pass on a good deal - then when I have "time" I can look into it. I agree about not needing the distraction on top of all else.....thanks again!

Pammie,

One difference is that you can't upgrade a student version. That means that if you find out that you want cs5 (which is going to be amazing) you can never upgrade to it from a student edition you have to buy it new.

I found that the upgrade price was actually higher than the student price last time I upgraded. Don't know if that will be true with CS5 - just have to wait and see.

Still a die-hard PSE girl here, but have fun everyone! That is a lofty price, but I imagine it's an amazing class.

Re:What you've all been waiting for... 14 Years, 1 Month ago
Hmmm...student version vs. regular version. Here are my thoughts...unless you are going to be upgrading every time a new version comes out (12-18 months) than I would buy the student version, keep it for a few cycles and then rebuy the student version. Of course this is all assuming that you CAN buy the student version.

I have the student version of CS3 Creative Suite, and as much as I would like the new goodies in CS5, I'm going to hold out a little more and rebuy when CS6 comes along.

Laura

PS. The student version historically has always been cheaper than the upgrade to the regular version.

Re:What you've all been waiting for... 14 Years, 1 Month ago
My student version is on its way - CS4 only - I'm psyched and thankful for a hubby who receives a faculty discount. I suspect CS4 will have more than I will need for quite some time to come and it does make sense if I have n itch for CS5 or CS6 - I just get the new student version instead of upgrading - unless of course that winning lottery ticket appears.

Thanks to all for the words of wisdom and advice.

Does anyone know if the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended - Student Edition really looks and feels exactly the same as CS4

I have this program for windows and the CS4 is the full version of that program... you don't get the add on programs like Illustator but you do get Bridge. I have had no problems with the software nor following any class instructions here at the playground

I am trying to decide whether to go for it. I am a full time mummy of 2 littlies - 2 1/2 and 6 months, and had to stop working 18 months ago for health reasons. I will have to get CS as well as do the course, and will have to justify whether I can spend some of our tax return on this. I guess if I can possibly make some money out of designing and have a better idea about how to go about it it becomes more justifiable. Scrapbooking is part of what keeps me *sane* and since doing the tablet class I have become more productive. ummmmmmm

Yes, the price is more than the "usual" price we see here, BUT it it definitely a bargain. I have looked into classes in my area (in the past) and they generally run $500-$800 for a 2 day class, etc. With that being said, I don't think I"ll be able to swing the class (just got a new iMac), so I do hope it will be offered again!
I'm so envious of those of you who get to take it!

I am so excited about this class I COULD JUST PEE MY PANTS!!!

Ever since I found this site and took my very first class, something inside me KNEW that I wanted to be able to make MY very own kits....and now Jessica has offered us this AMAZING class!!!

I live in a very northern community in Ontario Canada ~ because of this attending a college or any other place for class would be impossible.

I really am grateful for this opportunity, and since I already know the calibre of classes that are put on here at JS.com I am confident I will not be disappointed and I will feel as though I have INVESTED my money in myself and my creativity

HOORAY!!!

psst! is it May 24th Yet???

I'm very excited about this class. I'm with Ann (pinewoodtoo). Everything I've learned from Jessica and her classes has been amazing and I just can't get enough. It must be the teacher in us. The thirst for knowledge.

The class description doesn't say there is a limited class size. And the only limited one I know of was Stories in Hand (a freebie from a while ago). I suspect there is no class limit.

Gordon Bennett, that's a lot of money! Oh well, what the heck.
I've spent way more on paper scrapping stuff that will likely never get used. At least with a Jessica Sprague class, I know I'll be getting my money's worth. AND it will be so much FUN!

like everybody else I would love to just have the knowledge for myself, but I really don't plan on becoming a designer. So the price is a little too high for me, I am ogling that new CS5 coming out It sounds like an awesome awesome class though
