Well hello there, my dear Spraground friends, and welcome to our 7 Days in June 2013 Challenges! What grander way is there to celebrate our 6th birthday month but with a weeklong serving of daily challenges (not to mention the AWESOME classes of Jes and the amazing discounts in our digi shoppe!).
Before we get started, for the benefit of those who are joining us for the first time (or those who need a little refresher), here are some basic notes for how 7 Days in June works:
1. Come to this spotlight area of our general forum everyday this week to check out the new challenge for the day. Nan (yes, The Nancie Rowe-Janitz) and I Will be leading the challenges every day this week and we'll be putting up a new challenge every day between 10:00 - 10:30 am.
2. You have 24 hours to complete the challenge of the day, till the next challenge comes up the following day.
3. You have 24 hours to grab the freebie that comes with the challenge (we love freebies, don't we?). Be sure to grab it within the day it's released because the links will only be active during that time. When they're gone, they're gone.
4. Challenge layouts must be uploaded to our special JessicaSprague.com Challenge gallery HERE. In your title of your file information upload, be sure to indicate the challenge day so we know which challenge your layout belongs to (eg, "Day 1 Challenge"). Don't forget to put in your supply list as well, as we all appreciate knowing where you got your swell stuff!
5. Come back to this thread and post to let everyone know that you've completed the challenge. And because everyone loves a lot of eye candy and a little lovin', be sure to leave love on the amazing layouts that you happen to pass by as you check out the rest of the uploaded layouts in our challenge gallery.
So... with those reminders out of the way, let's jump into the very first challenge! I call it the
itoons challenge, and it was inspired by this image that I saw while skipping along the net's avenues:
I am loving all the comic inspiration that's been trending in lots of places. You find cartoony inspiration in all sorts of places... from ads to photos to merchandise and even walls! Check these out:
So today we are going to get all tooned-up and create a layout that's comic-inspired!
Here's today's challenge requirement:
1. Create a comic-inspired layout using the free template that I've created for you.
2. Don't forget to upload your challenge to the Challenge gallery and come back to this thread to let us know you've done it!
And that's about it! Just that and everything else is free play, because we love giving you loads of room for free play on this first day!
You're absolutely free to use whatever fonts and photo treatments you want to, but if you'd like to up the ante and really give your layout that comic look, I've also done the homework and provided you with a list of links for free comic-inspired fonts and free actions that give your photos that cartoon/comic look!
The links are included in the freebie download, so be sure to check out the Word document that comes with your zipped file.
Here's a sneak preview of the actions:
If these are not your style, you're absolutely free not to use the actions. As long as you use the challenge template, you're good to go. Oh, and because our template is fully-layered (and therefore fully adjustable), you do have the freedom to shift things around (use all the photo masks, or use only some masks for photos and use others for text, or duplicate some elements and use them multiple times, etc) and make it totally work for you.
And now let's get to that template!
Here's what your template looks like:
