Good morning!! I hope everyone has been enjoying our 7 days in June Challenge! I know I have been loving seeing all the pages in our challenge gallery!! So much creativity!!
Today, we are going to have some fun!! Some of you may have seen our monthly Art Journal challenges and either thought a) boy that looks fun I want to try that or b) that is just not for me! LOL! Well, today we are going to be going outside of some of your comfort zones and that is Ok! Because the great thing about Art Journaling is THERE ARE NO RULES!
What is
Art Journaling? It is the use of all kinds of mediums (paint, glue, ephemera, markers, etc), both digitally or traditionally, to visually express whatever you want to. Typically, an art journal can be a place to get out your thoughts, feelings and emotions in a healthy way. Or it can be a pure expression of creativity. Lastly, you can use an art journal to practice an art technique in a laid back and no pressure kind of way. You can choose to share your pages by printing them or framing them, or you can keep your art journals as a private place just for you.
I typically keep my art journal as a place to practice my art techniques, while at the same time, I find that my journaling goes a bit deeper than it would on a standard scrapbook page. Sometimes I just journal out all the junk in my head then I paint over it. It can be very healing. If I don't art journal for a while, I find that I get cranky and impatient. So my family always encourages me to go into my studio. tee hee.
Are you ready to start? Okay, I found this great
inspiration piece on Pinterest... don't you love it? I love it because it of it's imperfection and unfinished quality. I can almost picture her writing underneath the ephemera and paint splats. Or maybe coming back the next day to journal in the lined pages.
I've created this
freebie for you to get started on your art journal page.
You can download it
here.
Sorry, link has expired.
It is a 35 MB zip file. **If you have any issues, please send me an email to
nrjanitz@mac.com as I will be checking in from the road **
Use our inspiration piece as a starting place. You can make your page 8.5 x 11, 12x12, whatever size you want! Here are some ideas/prompts to get you started:
1) Use the paint circles to create a cluster of flowers and try doodling in PS to make the petals, stems & flowers.
2) Use the watercolored heart to create a flower by coping and rotating the heart to make the flower petals.
3) Create masks out of the paint.
4) Journal something that is for your eyes only, then cover it with the paint splats.
5) What does the word PLAY mean to you? Use that to get started on your page.
That's it! Remember there are NO RULES to art journaling so it can be ANYTHING you want! Get creative and more importantly don't worry about something not looking right. The great thing about our journals is that sometimes things look unfinished (or we think they are unfinished), when in fact they are perfect!! Plus, you can always come back to them later to add or take away something too (since they are digital!)
I can't wait to see what you come up with today...remember to come back here and link us up to your page in the Challenge Gallery!
HUGS!
Nan
