ART JOURNAL CHALLENGE FOR MARCH (Daydreaming...) 10 Years, 2 Months ago
Hello Art Journalers!! Happy (almost Spring)!!

I have a fun but a bit different challenge for you today... I am going to push you outside of your comfort zones okay?

Lately I have been drawing and sketching alot - as part of a an online class I am taking but also to push myself a bit with my art. To get away from using clipart for my creations and instead go to my imagination. It's been a bit daunting, somewhat terrifying but in the end I am creating things I never imagined. I also have found that drawing, or doodling, helps my mind and centers and calms me. I lose track of time and it's become like a meditation.

Now I know that most of us got into digital scrapbooking — and digital art journaling — to get away from pen and paper. However, what if we could marry the two - digi and traditional? Stay with me now....

What I would like to see this month is for you to DAYDREAM

Now. You can simply take that prompt and run with it and go all digital. OR...

You can use the prompt to begin doodling.

A doodle is an unfocused or unconscious drawing made while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes.

And incorporate those doodles into your page. Either use traditional pen and paper, or doodle right into your computer if you have a wacom pad. Or use your iPad to draw something and then incorporate that in your Art Journal Page.

Here are a few doodles that I made in my sketchbook, using a Micron Pen. I then scanned them in and made brushes with them. I have put these on Dropbox as I'm having issues with my host server right now.

And here is a link to my OODLES OF DOODLES PInterest Board to get you in the mood to doodle...

Okay - I can't wait to see what you come up with this month! The sky is the limit with this art journal prompt. Take time to explore and see what you come up with. You never know what will happen!

Thank you Nan. That was a lot of fun. I hope you didn't mind my using my Pen Tool to do my doodling. Mine is now posted. You can see it at

Earl - this is fantastic! Love your tutorial too... thank you!!!

The class I am taking is from Lila Rogers. She is a surface pattern design agent and it's a bootcamp to push surface pattern designers each month, she will give us an "assignment" and we have to draw the subject matter over and over. This month was jello! LOL! Then she will give us the final assignment - which is bolt fabric this month. Last month is was an iphone.

I am writing about it each week on my blog, if you are interested in reading about my journey in this class. It's been wonderful way for me to grow my art and therefore my digital and paper products!

If you want to have some fun with doodling, check out this lady... Joanne FInk. She is the one that got me going on doodling directly with micron pens (not pencil then tracing over with a pen later). The reason I like her is she is not afraid to make mistakes - she says you can just fix them with the pen! Her Youtube videos are really good.

Nan,
Your class with Lila sounds interesting. I'm glad you are having fun with it. I checked out Joanne Fink's doodling. It looks so easy watching her do it. I tried doing some. But, it just isn't my thing. It's work, not fun. I guess that I will just have to do my doodling in Photoshop with the Pen Tool. To me that is fun.

Hi! I often wonder what my sweet Buddy dreams about as he lays on his doggie bed by the sliding glass door. I hope he can dream in Technicolor.
