Uninstalling Fonts 9 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
I have a question about font management. I have nexus font and amp. I'm wondering about the options for uninstalling fonts. I'm asked if I want to uninstall and delete the font file, uninstall and leave the file where it is, or uninstall and make a backup of the file. I do have all of my font files on a portable hard drive, so I wouldn't need to use option 3, but what would happen with the other two options? My laptop is bogged down with fonts which is why I'm looking to uninstall the bulk of them. If I chose to uninstall and leave the file where it is, does this defeat the purpose of uninstalling it in the first place?
Also, I notice that Nexus font does not show me the uninstalled fonts even when I have my portable hard drive plugged in. So not real sure what to do.
Thanks
Kimberley

Do you have a Mac or a PC? Is Nexus the name of a font? What is amp? Typically I uninstall and leave them in place, if you have plenty of hard drive space. The files themselves aren't that big, it's just the loading of all the active fonts.

Kimberly, I keep all my third-party fonts in a folder I created called My Fonts. I only install the ones I REALLY like. With Nexus opened while you are working in a program, all of your fonts are available to use. That's the beauty of Nexus. So there really is no need to actually install all your third party fonts.

Thanks Landorasue & Terebene.
Terebene, I am using a pc. Nexus Font & AMP are the font viewers I have installed.
Landorasue, I have all of my fonts on a portable hard drive and few recently downloaded fonts in a folder on my desktop until I move them to my portable hard drive.
If I were to uninstall the fonts from the font folder in the control panel, is it okay to delete the font file since I have them backed up elsewhere?
Also, when I open Nexus font, how do I view the uninstalled fonts?

I'm not familiar with either Nexus Font or Amp Font, so I'm not sure how they work. On my PC, I uninstall and install third-party fonts manually (Start >Control Panel >Appearance and Personalization >Fonts) and keep a backup file on an EHD. I hope that helps a little.

Kimberly, I'm sorry I'm just getting back with you. I am new to this site. I did not receive an email showing that you had responded. Not sure how to subscribe to this thread.
Anyway, when you open Nexus Font, go to Help (choose Help English or PDF) > Basic. Read the instructions for creating Groups, Folders, and Sets. This way you will understand the differences.
I Nexus, you must create Groups under Library to see your uninstalled fonts. I created a group called My Fonts. Then I added the folder under My Fonts where all my uninstalled (third party) are located on my computer.
