Delete Unzipped Files? 16 Years, 11 Months ago
Ok, I have uploaded some kits. I have unzipped/extracted the files....but what do I do with the unzipped folders? Do I save them in a file somewhere or do I delete them? I am thinking that they are going to take up additional HD Space. But, I really think I should keep them, in case I somehow lose the unzipped file. What do you guys do? Burn to a CD?

Digichick, I save my unzipped files in a folder and when I have enough to fill a DVD I burn a backup copy then delete from my hard drive.

I also keep the unzipped folders, just in case I inadvertantly save a background or element I made changes to (recolored, resized, etc.). This way, I can restore that piece of the kit to what I originally purchased. I have a folder both on my hard drive and on my EHD and sort the zipped kits by designer name so I can easily find them if I need to. It hasn't happened often but when it has, I've been happy I can recover from my mistake.

You know, I normally delete my zip files but after reading this I may just start keeping them. Good points here.

As for me, I normally delete the ZIPs. I agree that it's a duplicate copy and takes up HD space, but I love the idea of burning those onto a backup disk. You can never be too careful with this stuff. GREAT idea.

Ok, so I just went thru and deleted all my zips, now I wish I had read this first. Keeping them on a DVD is a GREAT idea!!

One thing I have noticed too.....
I had some kits that I had already deleted the UNZIPPED files for. Backing up these files compared to the ZIPPED ones used a lot more space on the CD. I can really store a lot more files on the CD's if I burn the ones that are still zipped. If I need to upload them again at some time I can just rezip them! whalaaaa
Thanks for all the advice!
Margaret

Oh....and Jessica....You are just smarter than the average bear and don't alter the original pieces while you are creating! That is what I am having to get used to doing. I will still back everything up though in case my system crashes or something!
