Help! How to I stop my laptops from mirroring? 11 Years, 2 Months ago
|

I’m a little frustrated and wonder if anyone here might be able to help me out!
I just got a new Mac laptop (I LOVE it! – of course!). While my old laptop had problems, it’s still a good laptop so my kids use it now. I was going to be a helpful Mom last night and surprise them this morning with a cleaned up Safari (they don’t need all my bookmarks, etc.). Well that didn’t work out so well for me. I completely deleted each and every bookmark I’d made in Safari over the years so it was all shiny and new for them. Beautiful!
THEN, to my dismay, I went to my NEW laptop and apparently the two computers mirror each other. All my bookmarks are deleted from my new Safari as well. ARGH!
There must be some mirroring setting or somehow they are both syncing to my iCloud account (because of course now my bookmarks are also gone from my iPhone). Does anyone happen to know how to turn mirroring off on a Mac?

Go to System Preferences> iCloud. You can turn on and off all types of things between devices that way.

I think you're right Lori. I was just at the Apple store tonight for a Genius Bar appt. on my iPhone (which they replaced - under warranty - yay!). While they were replacing my phone I chatted with employees who seemed to have time and they suggested the same thing (turning off iCloud). I'm hoping that'll take care of it!
Thanks for letting me know though! It's so nice to know that someone over here at J*S can always be counted on to know the answers to these techy questions!
Have a great weekend!
