Just downloaded Nexus Font--what next? 10 Years, 9 Months ago
Okay, I'm really behind in Jessica's font challenge from her blog to organize my fonts. I just downloaded Nexus Font Setup 2.5.8. I put it on my desktop. Is that where you put yours? Is there a tutorial about how to get it up and going? Can you share tips about getting it going... anything would be appreciated. Thanks

I downloaded it, opened it and it was not at all intuitive. It doesn't look like you can organize the fonts without having them installed and I like installing temporarily when I need them.

I use AmpFontViewer which is old, not pretty, but it allows me to easily browse my not installed fonts and install them temporarily for my layouts.

It also appears to only allow categorizing the fonts that are installed, so thus far I have no font categories. However I may split up my scrapbookingfonts folder into subfolders for the different categories, but it hasn't been a priority.

I guess all that to say, I'm no help with Nexus or font organization

I did a search on the web and managed to find a few tutorials. It works........when I have Nexus font open, my installed fonts and fonts that are not installed all work in Photoshop. I just got my computer back from the shop and only factory fonts are installed. All my other font downloads are in a separate folder in scrapbook supplies. I added the folder to Nexus Font via the tutorial instructions. If I don't have Nexus Font open, only the installed fonts show up in Photoshop.

How do you temporarily install a font? Just install it, use it and turn right around and uninstall it? Thanks.

Re:Installing fonts temporarily? 10 Years, 9 Months ago
I never temporarily install fonts so I'm no help!

Nexus:

Right click on not installed and you can add the folders where your fonts are stored. I have one font folder in my scrapbook supplies where I've thrown all downloads over the years.

Right click on sets and you can add sets and groups. I had a set for handwriting, one for titles, etc. I think you simply drag the font to the set. I lost all my organizing in my computer crash so I simply printed out all my fonts. It took a lot of paper, but paper is cheap and now I can see them all. But I don't have thousands of fonts either. I think I could set up subfolders on my hard drive inside my font folder for typewriter fonts, title fonts, handwriting fonts etc but I haven't tried. That would be one good way to never lose organization of downloaded fonts (if it works). You can also organize fonts in ACDSee per Kayla Lamareaux's ACDSee class on her site. I haven't tried this but I do really like ACDSee and might try it at some time.

Now you know everything I know about fonts. Which isn't much, haha!

Re:Installing fonts temporarily? 10 Years, 9 Months ago
I scoured youtube for tutorial about Nexus and got some ideas on how it functions. I'm using it to preview the installed fonts. I've made all my sets, but no groups. I tagged some fonts which made categories in the bar above the text sample box. I just haven't quite figured out what to do with the mountain of fonts I downloaded to a file on my desktop titled "downloads to unzip" which is where I put all my fonts until I install them. I'd like to not install anymore as I have 600 installed and would even like to uninstall some and use them via Nexus. Think I still need more help with how to handle those uninstalled fonts with Nexus.

Yes, this is on my to-do list, too. I watched Jessica's video, but did not have time to do anything right then. I'd like a way to know which fonts are necessary for the computer so I don't delete something that is needed. I probably have too many fonts installed, too. I heard once to limit it to 300, but that was a while ago. We need a font guru!

Re:Installing fonts temporarily? 10 Years, 9 Months ago
Exactly! I had under a thousand fonts installed before my computer went to the shop. Now there are 247 fonts in my installed folder (whatever Windows needs I guess) from when the operating system was reinstalled. I have 807 in my font folder inside my scrapbook supplies (these aren't installed). But they show up in Photoshop when I have Nexus font viewer running at the same time as photoshop. (Because I added the uninstalled folder to Nexus via the instructions above).

and again, that's all I know. I don't like messing with fonts. So confusing.

I know nothing about Nexus. But to temporarily install fonts, I use Amp font viewer. It has a button to temporarily install font, and that is what I use. You can do it while photoshop is open and then it will show up in your font list. When you close amp, the font is uninstalled. I have no idea if Nexus can also work this way.

Is Amp font viewer a free download? Is it for PC or Mac?
