Printer settings for Epson when printing on vellum 15 Years, 10 Months ago
Hey guys,

am being just a tad frazzled right now. Have to print something on vellum and my new Epson printer is just not cooperating. The ink bleeds like you would not believe. I have never had any problems with this before on my previous printers and now I'm struggling to find the right setting so that it will use less ink and with that bleed less.

I have an Epson stylus photo 1400. I know there are a few of you out there who have an Epson printer so I figured I would throw the question out there and see if anyone has any suggestions for me.

Thank you so much in advance!

Gotta run!

Sorry I can't help Linda! Maybe shoot Jessica an email and see if she has printed on vellum with her printer. Hope you figure it out soon!

What types of media are listed in your printer dialog box?

I have an Epson 1280 which the 1400 replaced. I do have transparencies as a media option.

If you can tell me the options you have, I might be able to help.

Re:Printer settings for Epson when printing on vel 15 Years, 9 Months ago
I just bought a new Epson R280 and tried printing on vellum. It took awhile but I think I finally figured out answers to two nagging problems:

First, the printer would not even print on the vellum. It just acted like the vellum wasn't there. It would load it up but refused to print on it. Second, when it finally printed on it the inks bled and looked terrible.

1. The printer just wasn't seeing the vellum so it would not position it properly. It appears that there are two paper sensors in the R280. The first one is where the paper loads into the printer. It senses if there is any paper there. If there is, it draws the paper into the printer. The second sensor actually positions the leading edge of the paper and it does this by being light sensitive. This sensor emits a small light which the paper blocks when it gets to the sensor. The printer moves the paper til the paper is right on the edge of this sensor. The problem is that vellum is translucent and does not block the light so the printer cannot find the edge of the vellum. The work around for this was to wrap a piece of masking tape along the bottom edge of the vellum. This made the sensor happy and it would then position and print on the vellum.

2. The bleeding was the result of the nearly impervious surface of the vellum. Its almost like printing on plastic. I was used to printing everything on a photo paper setting. But for the vellum I changed to the "plain white paper" selection. When I did this the inks did not bleed....

Hope this helps..for folks who have printers like mine..
